Walnut & White Fenix Two-Tone Kitchen in SF Bay Area

This project is a frameless modern European kitchen in the San Francisco Bay Area, built around a single idea: every cabinet should be designed from the inside out.

From the outside, two materials carry the room — natural black walnut on the base cabinets and matte white Fenix NTM on the tall cabinets. Open any door, and the conversation flips.

Designed from the inside out

Open a walnut cabinet, and you'll find a soft gray interior. Open a white Fenix NTM cabinet, and you'll find warm walnut inside. The two tones don't just live next to each other on the fronts — they trade places inside, so every cabinet feels deliberate.

This is what European cabinetry is supposed to do: hold a clean, architectural line across the room, and reward you the moment you actually use it.

Materials & specifications

Black walnut.
All base cabinet fronts are finished in natural black walnut, with vertical grain continuity carried across drawer fronts and integrated handles — a detail almost no other shop in the Bay Area produces at this level.

Black walnut is a North American hardwood prized for its rich tone, fine grain, and dimensional stability, well-suited to a kitchen meant to age beautifully rather than date quickly. Walnut also reappears as the interior surface of the white tall cabinets, tying the two tones together.

Matte white Fenix NTM®.
The tall cabinet fronts are finished in white Fenix NTM, an advanced surface engineered by Arpa Industriale. The super-matte external layer is thermally healable— light surface scratches can be repaired with localized heat — and the material resists fingerprints, stains, and household chemicals. The result is a calm, architectural white that holds its look over years of real use.

Corner pull-outs.

The blind corner cabinet — usually a dead zone in any kitchen — is solved here with a German-engineered swing-out system.

Shelves bring everything stored inside the corner forward in one motion, so nothing gets buried or forgotten. Smooth pivots, integrated soft-close, and full access to every inch of a space that's typically wasted.

Blum hardware:
Legrabox drawers and matte black hinges.
Every drawer in the kitchen runs on Blum Legrabox, the Austrian-engineered premium drawer system — slim metal sides, synchronized feather-light motion, full-extension runners, and integrated Blumotion soft-close.
Load ratings up to 70 kg / 155 lbs mean even fully loaded drawers open and close with the same precision on day one and year ten.

Every door swings on Blum Clip Top Blumotion hinges in matte black instead of the standard chrome — a small detail that disappears when doors are closed and quietly reinforces the architectural look when they're open.

The "thermally healable" property sounds abstract until you watch it. In the demonstration below, a surface scratch disappears in seconds with localized heat — no patch, no refinish, no replacement.
This is one of the reasons Fenix NTM holds up to real kitchen use in a way traditional matte laminates and lacquers don't.
